This data article described the process of mixed-methods data collection and the resulting dataset related to online classroom management strategies in challenging situations faced by pre-service teachers in the second semester of the 2020-2021 academic year. The dataset included participants’ responses to the questionnaire and the two-section data collection instrument. The data provided insights into pre-service teachers' perceptions of online classroom management and their strategies for managing challenges. Researchers used the dataset to investigate language teachers’ perceptions of their preferred strategies and compared the findings with prior studies. These data were helpful for educators and researchers interested in improving online teaching and exploring research questions on online classroom management. The dataset could contribute to the literature on online teaching, inform teacher education and professional development programs, and improve language teachers’ online teaching experience to create effective learning environments
